The Oculoplastics Association of India (OPAI) is dedicated to forwarding the cause of oculoplastics across the country. Founded in 1987, OPAI now has over 500 members who are dedicated to oculofacial surgery and disorders of the orbit, eyelids, eye and the lacrimal system. In the past three decades, Ophthalmic plastic surgery has earned its special identity in Indian ophthalmology. The skilled oculoplastic surgeons of the yesteryears nurtured their interest and spread the art to others. Today, this elite group has taken the shape of a healthy organization, the Oculopastics Association of India.
Founded in 1987, a small group of specialists came together and founded the ‘Orbit Society of India’. It consisted of ophthalmologists and plastic surgeons who had a special interest in oculoplastics and orbital surgery. Over time, the name was changed to Orbit and Oculoplasty Association of India during the All India Ophthalmological Society Meeting. Finally the society was formally registered with an official constitution and assumed its current title Oculoplastics Association of India.
Each year, OPAI hosts two meetings: a mid-term meet and in the second half of the calender year – an annual meeting which is one of the largest meetings of oculoplastic surgery in the world. With high quality speakers and scientific content, the annual meeting attracts delegates from across the globe.
OPAI remains a closely knit group that is dedicated to promoting awareness regarding the field; highlighting the latest in scientific breakthroughs and keeping the community updated with newer techniques and technologies in the subspecialty of oculoplastic surgery.
