M Subrahmanyam Award

Dr. M. Subrahmanyam is doyen in the oculoplastic surgery. Having served as the president of OPAI in the past, he has mentored many oculoplastic surgeons. In his academic career, he established this department of oculoplastics at Sarojini Devi Eye Hospital and Regional Institute of  Ophthalmology, Hyderabad where in addition to having performed several thousand surgeries, he also started long-term fellowship training programs. He is the first Indian to write a book on orbital diseases. The M Subrahmanyam award is given to the Best Original Free Paper in Orbit and related Oncology and Pathology.

The guidelines for the award are as follows:

  1. Award will be given for the Best Original Free Paper in Orbit and related Oncology and Pathology
  2. Any ratified member of OPAI will be eligible for the award
  3. The award will be given to the presenting author
  4. The award will be presented once a year
  5. The award will be given for the work done in India
  6. The award will carry a Certificate and a Medal
  7. The Certificate shall mention the list of co-authors
  8. The award will not be given to the same person twice

The Oculoplastics Association of India (OPAI) is dedicated to forwarding the cause of oculoplastics across the country. Founded in 1987, OPAI now has over 500 members who are dedicated to oculofacial surgery and disorders of the orbit, eyelids, eye and the lacrimal system. In the past three decades, Ophthalmic plastic surgery has earned its special identity in Indian ophthalmology. The skilled oculoplastic surgeons of the yesteryears nurtured their interest and spread the art to others. Today, this elite group has taken the shape of a healthy organization, the Oculopastics Association of India.
